Although there were many parts of the country that were heavily hit by the storms this year, there were many static puddles created very quickly around these areas. We all want to get on with our lives and it is also fun to be whooshing through the puddles and on your way but STOP! What you need is to hear the Techs in our workshop describing the cars they have worked on over the years that have chanced it through a puddle and ended up in the workshop.
It's so distressing to hear them describe the damage that can be done in about 10 seconds - with about an EGG CUP full of water. Take the wrong car through the wrong puddle and you are looking at a completely seized engine in the worst case scenario.
We have received a distress call today from a lady who took her car through a puddle at Hazlemere on Sunday and today...... it is up on a Transporter on its' way to us. She needed to take some laundry to her mother so chanced the water.
When you next look at the puddle, trying to size up if you will be safe - whether you should chance it - ask this one question:
Sucking in water instead of AIR is where the problems really start. BMW? Just don't chance it - on certain models, the air intake is just behind your grille - and low down too. Wet feet AND a new engine.
If you want to know where your Air Intake is - CALL US!
Sensors that are built into bumpers - like parking sensors, are not so compatible with water! Water easily moves into the engine bay and can upset all sorts of electrical systems - and not only at the time - there are reports of air bags going off, days after components have been immersed in water.
ADAS sensors bedded into the lower part of the car - do you know if these apply to your car? Don't drive through then!!!
If you need any help - please come in and talk to Paul. Unless you have a BMW and then we pretty much know the answer - get your wellies out and leave the car at home to be safe!
These from the AA - some are shocking!
